M. Thomas Russell; MFA
MTR@PiratePig.org | Berkeley, California
Matthew Thomas Russell is the lord of all he sees. His fingers hound the keys of his typewriter with musical vigilance. He is an animal from the middle act of a circus near you. Lather yourselves with him. His failure to make physical use of a mirror does not in any way equal a lack in his sense of self or self-entitlement.
Nathaniel Mohatt; MFA, PhD
Nate@PiratePig.org | Hamden, CT
Nathaniel Mohatt is the offspring of the Delta River and Chases the Women Lake. He is ruled over by the iron fists of his daughters, but don't think that means he isn't watching you. He is not from here. He is most easily found in a tree.
Professionally, he is a poet and a community psychologist. Although he strives towards a "creative separation" (see Karl Kraus) between artistic/creative endeavors and sciencitifc/logical pursuits, he contray-wise dreams of professional unification. ... Some of his research looks at how participation in public art projects can help people in recovery from mental illness and addiciton. He also collaborates with like-minded writer-activists (Julie Batten of Boston, Terry Thaxton of Orlando, and Just Kibbe of the Pirate Pig) to lead a network of writers and artists engaged in social action and teaching among tranditonally marginalized communities.
He received his MFA in poetry from Saint Mary's College of California, where he had the joy of studying under Brenda Hillman, Chris Stoffolino, Chris Sindt, and Michael Palmer. He owes much debt to his MFA program for connecting him to hithe other co-founders of the Pirate Pig.
You can find published poems and online books by Dr. Mohatt here: Nathaniel Mohatt's Poetry.
For a little more on his other professional and research accomplishments, here's his Curriculum Vitae.
Just Kibbe; MFA
JustKibbe@PiratePig.org | Los Angeles, CA
Just Kibbe can neutralize, pluck, and eviscerate a poem in less than five minutes. His muses are many. The vice-grip, his dictionary, and inkwell remain his constant companions. His ability to legally, politely and professionally accept money in exchange for intellectual abilities continues to line his pockets.
